Are You Struggling with Positive Projection?
Think of the people you admire. The people that inspire you.
How would you describe them?
Honest? Hardworking? Loving? Disciplined? Warm? Intelligent? Creative? Tenacious? Gentle? Direct? Humble?
What if I were to tell you that everything you see in them, everything you admire in them, are traits that already exist within you and are crying out to be brought to the surface; that's why you can see them so clearly.
It's a phenomenon called Positive Projection.
Positive projection takes the innate latent qualities that we have learned to keep hidden and projects them onto other people. I'm seeing it a lot in my mentoring sessions; teachers describing other teachers they look up to, failing to realise that much of what they love are the exact traits that they too are offering to the world, or have within them that simply haven't been nurtured.
I believe that our Yoga practise is a place in which we can nurture our true capabilities; a place where we can side step our fixed mindset and uncover the parts of ourselves that have been unconscious for so long.
This is why simple intentions, practised over time, can be so impactful to how we operate in the world and within ourselves.
So...
Who do you admire?
Why do you admire them?
How could you bring these qualities that we know exist within you to your conscious mind?
(Hint: bring one of these qualities into your yoga practise this week; a safe space in which your hidden power can become conscious & accessible to you)
P.s - I believe in you.
